Meet Ms. Lucyna Adamkiewicz, former prisoner of the German concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. When the Warsaw Uprising started she was 17 years old. After eight days she was deported with her mother to Auschwitz-Birkenau and subsequently to KL Mauthausen-Gusen. Probably only a miracle saved her life.
As she recalls, at one point in time she was only a few feet away from the SS officer doctor Joseph Mengele
„I was being instructed by a female prisoner, who had been in the camp for two years: „Do not make eye-contact with doctor Mengele, or you will die” – she added.
Mrs. Lucyna was taking part in the commemoration of the first transport of Poles to KL Auschwitz. Her photo with hell in the background. Today in Poland we commemorte the 81th anniversary of the first transport of prisoners – 728 Poles – to KL Auschwitz.
Nobody will give back her lost youth…
